How to Sell Your Amazon Seller Account for Cash (Step by Step)

The Short Answer

Yes, you can sell your Amazon seller account for cash if it is in good standing and you are its original owner. You send a two-minute form, book a 45-minute evaluation call, get a cash offer on the call or within 24 hours, sign an Asset Purchase Agreement, and Escrow.com pays you on the transfer call, the moment you hand over access.

A deal usually closes in one to three weeks. Good standing means no current suspension, deactivation or unresolved appeal. We have bought 1,600+ accounts this way since 2020, each one from the person who registered it.

What Does Amazon Say About Transferring an Account?

Amazon's help pages say a seller account cannot be transferred and that a new owner of the business must set up a new seller account. That is Amazon's policy for its own platform. What we buy is the account as a business asset, recorded in a signed Asset Purchase Agreement, from the person who owns it.

Amazon's Can I transfer my seller account? page puts it this way: "If the ownership of a business changes for any reason, the new owner must establish a new seller account." Its Set and edit user permissions page says it without a qualifier: "Although you can add users to your Professional seller account as secondary users, you can't transfer the account. If the business ownership changes, the new owner should establish a new seller account in their name."

The difference between Amazon's policy and the law is its own question: is selling your Amazon seller account legal?

A reply on Amazon's own seller forums warns: "If you fall for one of those online dudes that promise you to buy your account, please realize that your name and bank information will remain on your account and YOU will be responsible for all violations and charges."

That is a fair warning about handing a login to a stranger with no agreement behind it. Here is the difference.

Thinking of selling? Two-minute form, a 45-minute call, your offer within 24 hours.

The Sale, Step by Step

How the sale runs, start to finish. The form - About two minutes, before we ever speak.; The call - 45 minutes on a screen share. We look at the account together.; The offer - A cash number on the call, or within 24 hours.; The agreement - You sign the Asset Purchase Agreement yourself.; Escrow funded - We send the price to Escrow.com before anything moves.; The handover - A guided screen-share call where you hand over access.; You are paid - Escrow.com releases the money on that same call.

Step 1: Send the form

The form takes about two minutes. Give us the basics: account age, category approvals, sales history, metrics such as order defect rate, late shipment rate and feedback score, and any brand assets such as USPTO trademarks.

Give us the real figures, even the bad ones.

Step 2: The evaluation call

About 45 minutes on Zoom. You share your screen and we look at Seller Central together. What to expect on the call is written out in detail. In short, we look at:

  • Age: how long the account has been selling
  • Health and history: current standing and any past suspensions
  • Sales history: total and recent
  • Brand approvals: restricted brands and gated categories already open on the account
  • Brand Registry: whether the account has it

We tell you what we can offer and why.

Step 3: The offer

You get a number on the call, or within 24 hours if we need to check a few things internally, and then in writing. Every offer weighs three things: the account's current market value, the time it takes us to resell it, and the risk we take on during the transfer. It is not a judgement of the quality of your business.

You can accept, counter, or take it away and think. If another buyer has offered you more, tell us: depending on the account, we can sometimes raise our offer. What moves the number, factor by factor, is its own post.

Step 4: The Asset Purchase Agreement

An Asset Purchase Agreement, or APA, is the signed contract that records the sale as a business asset sale. It arrives as a no-login link on our own agreements page, and you sign it yourself. It sets out what is being sold, the price and how it is paid, and your confirmation that you are the rightful owner, with full authority to sell and transfer the account.

The buyer named in it is Seller Solutions Global LLC, trading as Cash For Stores, 5830 East 2nd Street, STE 7000, Casper, WY 82609. No login changes hands before it is signed. Escrow.com may also ask you to verify your ID. That is Escrow.com's own check, not ours.

Step 5: The money goes into escrow first

Escrow is a licensed third party that holds our money until the transfer is done. We send the full price to Escrow.com ourselves, by bank transfer, so you never arrange that leg. You can log in to Escrow.com and see the money sitting there before you hand over any access.

Escrow.com is a licensed escrow agent, not a payment app: in California it holds escrow licence 9631867 with the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. How escrow protects you covers the detail. Never hand over access before the funds are confirmed held, whoever the buyer is.

Step 6: The transfer call, and you are paid

Two things to do before the call:

  • Clear your inventory. You keep all of your inventory. We buy the account, not the stock, so you clear any remaining units off it before the transfer, at your own cost. Under about 100 units left is fine.
  • Download your reports and tax forms. We can usually request a 1099 for you afterwards, but it is easier beforehand.

The transfer call is booked within 10 business days of escrow being funded. It is normally one screen-share call: you hand over access, and Escrow.com releases the money to you on that call, the moment access changes hands. How fast the money reaches your bank is your choice:

From the transfer call to your bank. About 1 business day - by US wire; About 3 business days - by the free electronic transfer; 3 to 5 business days - by international wire

We cover the Escrow.com fee whichever method you pick, and there is no upfront cost to you. After the call, stay reachable and forward us any marketplace emails or codes that reach you.

How Long Does It Take, and When Are You Paid?

You are paid on the transfer call itself: Escrow.com releases the money the moment you hand over access, and that call is booked within 10 business days of escrow being funded. How fast the agreement is signed decides the rest. Amazon's later check of the new owner is their wait, not yours.

The two numbers worth remembering. 1 to 3 weeks - usually, from the form to the money in your bank; Within 10 business days - from escrow funded to your transfer call

Your name, tax ID, address and bank details are replaced by the new owner's after the transfer call, and we give no fixed date for that. The bank account on file stays as it is for the first 30 days, as the FAQ on your pending balance explains. Until then, any charge that lands on your card is ours: we pay it back by gift card, Zelle or bank transfer, whichever you prefer, outside escrow. If you need a date for the marketplace side, plan on 90 days. That is only how long to stay reachable for marketplace emails and codes: your money was already paid out on the transfer call.

What Slows a Sale Down

A second account. Not an automatic no. What matters is how the accounts were kept apart (different information inside each, different IPs used consistently) and whether the one you are selling has been live more than two years. Three accounts run from one computer is the case to avoid. Say so on the first call.

A live suspension. We cannot buy while it is live. The next section covers it.

A late signature. A deal closes as fast as the Asset Purchase Agreement is signed and the transfer call is booked.

Inventory left on the account. It affects the handover, so clear it first. Under about 100 units left is fine.

Can You Sell a Suspended Amazon Seller Account?

Not while the suspension is live, but often once it is lifted. If the suspension is not for fraud, counterfeit or a related-account ban, we postpone the deal rather than refuse it and look at the account again after Amazon reinstates it. We do not offer reinstatement, so you run the appeal yourself and come back to us.

The ones we do not buy at all: accounts suspended for fraud or counterfeit, and accounts linked to someone else's banned account. Tell us on the first call if the account carries a suspension. Which is which, in detail.

Which Exit Fits Your Account?

The right exit depends on what you are selling. When the account itself is the asset, its age, approvals and standing, a direct cash buyer is usually the cleanest route.

RouteFits when
Marketplace listingA public, self-serve listing suits you
Direct buyer like usThe account itself is the asset

If you are selling a small business that is really one Amazon account, the account is what a buyer pays for. The four ways to sell an ecommerce business compares the routes in more depth, and how to close an account without throwing it away covers the last resort.

Red Flags in a Buyer

The same list applies to anyone who offers to buy your account, including us. Walk away if a buyer:

  • Wants to pay you directly rather than through a licensed escrow agent
  • Will not sign a written agreement
  • Pushes for the handover before Escrow.com confirms the funds are held
  • Offers a strong price without looking at the account first
  • Promises the transfer will be invisible to Amazon
  • Cannot tell you who the buying entity actually is

Any one of those is enough.

Ready for a Number?

Send the two-minute form, book the evaluation call, and you get a number on it, or within 24 hours after. If the offer works, the agreement goes out and we fund escrow. If it does not, you have spent less than an hour.

FAQ

Can I sell my Amazon seller account if it has no recent sales?

Usually, if it is in good standing. The age is what we pay for, and an empty account is fine.

Do I have to accept your offer?

No. If you are not ready yet, the offer stands and you can come back to us when you are.

What happens to my pending Amazon balance?

It stays yours. We do not change the bank account on file for 30 days, so Amazon keeps paying your pre-sale earnings to you during that time. Any balance paid out after those 30 days belongs to us.

Do you buy Walmart and eBay accounts too?

Yes. Amazon is the main one, and we also buy Walmart and eBay accounts where there is buyer demand for them. Each one goes through a signed Asset Purchase Agreement and Escrow.com, the same as an Amazon sale.

How much is my Amazon seller account worth?

It depends on the account's age, sales history, health, approvals and whether it has Brand Registry. We give you the number on the evaluation call, or within 24 hours, and what moves it, factor by factor is its own post.

Do I owe tax on the sale of my account?

That is a question for your accountant, so talk to them before you sell. The reports and tax forms to download before the handover are listed in Step 6.
