How to Sell Your Amazon FBA Business for Cash, Even a Small One

The Short Answer

To sell your Amazon FBA business for cash, sell the seller account itself to a direct buyer: you get an offer on a 45-minute call, sign an Asset Purchase Agreement, and Escrow.com pays you on the transfer call. A small store can still sell, because an account's age and history carry value even when its sales are small.

If a broker has passed on your store, you can still offer to sell your Amazon seller account to us: if it is in good standing, we make an offer after the evaluation. Cash For Stores has bought 1,600+ Amazon seller accounts from their original owners since 2020, and a deal usually closes in one to three weeks.

When you sell to us, the FBA stock stays yours. We buy the account.

Who buys Amazon FBA businesses?

Three kinds of buyer take on Amazon FBA businesses. A broker finds a buyer and runs the sale for you. An online-business marketplace lets you list the store yourself. A direct cash buyer, like us, buys the seller account itself.

Here is how the three compare from your side of the table:

RouteWho it suitsWhat you sellThe wait
BrokerA seller who wants someone else to run the saleThe whole businessSet by the broker's process
Marketplace listingA seller who wants to run the sale and vet buyers aloneThe whole business or the storeYour own time finding a buyer
Direct cash buyerA small, quiet or dormant store, or a seller who wants outThe seller account itselfUsually one to three weeks

If your store is mostly the account, the age, the approvals and some history, the direct route is the one built for it.

A broker listing and a direct cash sale. What is sold: Broker listing The whole business, Direct cash sale The seller account itself; Who finds the buyer: Broker listing The broker markets it, Direct cash sale We are the buyer; The wait: Broker listing Set by the broker's process, Direct cash sale Usually one to three weeks

Thinking of selling? Two-minute form, a 45-minute call, your offer within 24 hours.

Is my Amazon FBA business too small to sell?

Usually not, if what you sell is the seller account rather than a growth brand. We set no fixed minimum on account age or lifetime sales. A dormant account still has its age, its history and its category approvals, and those are what we pay for. An account that never took an order is still worth a look; it is simply worth less.

Cash For Stores is built for three kinds of seller:

  • The burned-out seller. Tried FBA, lost money, and the account has gone quiet. They want the chapter closed.
  • The pivot seller. Some success, but fees ate the margin. They want fair value and an easy process.
  • The accidental owner. An inherited account, a divorce, a partner who left. They want cash and as little explaining as possible.

All of them can still be worth money as an account.

What an account is worth depends on its history, so we do not quote a number before we have seen it. Every offer rests on three things: the account's market value, the time it takes us to resell it, and the risk we carry on the transfer. The offer is not a judgement of the quality of your business. What moves the number is in how much your Amazon seller account is worth.

How does a cash sale of an Amazon FBA business work?

You fill in a two-minute form, then we go through the account with you on a 45-minute screen-share call and make an offer on the call or within 24 hours. You sign an Asset Purchase Agreement, we fund Escrow.com, and Escrow.com releases your money on the transfer call, the moment you hand over access.

An Asset Purchase Agreement, or APA, is the signed contract that records the sale as a business asset sale and sets out what is sold and on what terms. An escrow agent is a licensed third party that holds the buyer's money until both sides finish the handover.

How a cash sale of your account runs. The form - About two minutes, before we ever speak.; The call - 45 minutes on a screen share. We go through the account together.; Your offer - On the call, or within 24 hours.; Agreement and escrow - You sign the APA. We fund Escrow.com before anything moves.; Clear and download - Clear your stock, then download your reports and tax forms.; The transfer call - Booked within 10 business days of escrow being funded.; You are paid - Escrow.com releases the money on that call. We cover its fee.

On the call we look at the account's age, the categories it can sell in, its health, its brand approvals and whether it has Brand Registry. We never ask for a login before a contract is signed.

Escrow.com is a licensed escrow agent, not a payment app: it holds California escrow licence 9631867 with the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. We send the purchase price to it ourselves, and you can log in and see the money there before you hand over anything. After the transfer call, the money reaches your bank in about 1 business day by US wire, 3 to 5 business days by international wire, or about 3 business days by the free electronic transfer. We cover the Escrow.com fee whichever you pick.

The numbers sellers ask about first. 45 min - the evaluation call; 24 hours - to your offer, if it is not made on the call; 10 business days - to book your transfer call once escrow is funded; 1 to 3 weeks - how long a deal usually takes

Your part ends on the transfer call, because that is when you are paid, apart from forwarding any marketplace emails or codes that reach you. Amazon may check the new owner afterwards; that wait is the buyer's, not yours.

An offer is an offer, not a commitment. If you are not ready, it stands, and you can come back when you are. If the price is the issue and the account is worth it, we may come back with a revised offer. How a sale is structured around Amazon's own transfer rules is covered on our page about whether you can sell your Amazon seller account at all. Every step in detail is in how to sell your Amazon seller account for cash.

What happens to my FBA inventory, brand and feedback?

Your inventory stays yours. We buy the account, not the stock, so you clear it off before the transfer, at your own cost; under about 100 units left is fine. The account's age, history and buyer feedback stay with the account.

Stays with youGoes with the account
Your inventory, cleared off before the transferThe account's age, selling history and buyer feedback
Fees already on the account before the transferAccount health, approved categories and brand approvals
Your reports and tax formsThe account itself, from the transfer call

For stock at Amazon, Seller Central gives you two ways out from Manage Inventory: a removal order, which sends the units back to you or has Amazon dispose of them, or Amazon's liquidation program, where Amazon sells the units on and pays you a share. Stock you ship yourself is simpler: you delete those listings, and nothing physical moves.

Once you have signed, create your removal order straight away. Fees already sitting on the account before the transfer stay with you: long-term storage, FBA fees not yet charged, and the subscription. We do not quote Amazon's fees or how long a removal takes; you see them in Seller Central when you create the order. Amazon's own FBA page puts it this way: "Costs for FBA depend on the products you sell and the exact services you use." The bank account on file does not change for the first 30 days after signing, so liquidation money paid out in that window reaches you.

Before the transfer call, download your reports and tax forms. We can usually request a 1099 for you afterwards, but it is much easier while the account is still yours.

Brand Registry is Amazon's program for trademark owners, giving a registered brand its own tools and protections. If the account has it, or holds USPTO-registered trademarks, say so on the call. Both can raise the offer.

Can I sell my FBA account if it is suspended?

Not while it is suspended, but once the suspension is lifted, yes, unless it is for fraud, counterfeit or a link to a banned account; those we cannot buy at all. We buy accounts in good standing, so a suspension that can be fixed postpones the sale rather than ending it: you get it lifted, then come back to us.

Good standing means no current suspension, deactivation or unresolved appeal on the account. We do not offer reinstatement as a service. Get the suspension lifted first, then mention it on the call. The full answer is in can you sell a suspended Amazon seller account.

How do I check a buyer before I hand anything over?

A buyer worth dealing with signs a written agreement before asking for your login and funds a licensed escrow agent before anything moves. Anyone who wants access first, pays outside escrow, or will not put the deal in writing leaves you exposed, because your name and bank details stay on an account you no longer control.

A seller on Amazon's own forums put the risk of a handshake deal plainly: "If you fall for one of those online dudes that promise you to buy your account, please realize that your name and bank information will remain on your account and YOU will be responsible for all violations and charges."

On our side, your name, tax ID, address and bank details are replaced by the new owner's once the account reaches its new owner, and we confirm it to you in writing. Any charge that lands on your card after the sale is ours: we pay it back by gift card, Zelle or bank transfer, whichever you prefer. That repayment sits outside escrow.

FAQ

Can I open a new Amazon seller account after I sell mine?

Yes. Selling to us does not stop you having another Amazon seller account in the future. You do lose the Amazon buyer account tied to the one you sell, so we send you instructions for opening a new buyer account safely.

How much is my Amazon FBA business worth?

What an account is worth depends on its history: its age, the categories it can sell in, its health and its brand approvals. Every offer rests on the account's market value, the time it takes us to resell it, and the risk we carry on the transfer. You get the number on the call or within 24 hours. What moves it is in how much your Amazon seller account is worth.

Do I owe tax when I sell my Amazon FBA business?

Our deals are business asset sales on a signed Asset Purchase Agreement, so what you owe depends on your own situation. Talk to your accountant before you sell, including about how the sale is structured.

How long does it take to sell my Amazon FBA business?

A deal usually closes in one to three weeks. You are paid on the transfer call itself.

What if I want to buy an account instead?

That is the other side of the business. Our sister brand, Seller Accounts (selleraccounts.com), sells aged seller accounts. Cash For Stores only buys.
