When Should I Sell My Amazon Seller Account?
Rated 4.9 on Trustpilot. Free offer within 24 hours, paid through Escrow.com.

The Short Answer
Sell your Amazon seller account once you know you are leaving, while it is still in good standing and before you close it. There is no best month on the calendar: the offer is set by the account and by what our buyers are asking for at the time, and a closure ends any sale, while a suspension puts it on hold unless it is for fraud, counterfeit or a related account.
We have bought 1,600+ seller accounts from their original owners since 2020.
What are the signs it is time to sell?
It is time to sell when you have stopped selling or plan to, when the account costs you more than it earns, or when you are about to close it. The account still has value in all three cases, as long as it is in good standing. Selling turns it into cash instead of a write-off.
The sellers we talk to tend to fit one of three pictures:
- You tried it and it did not work. Maybe a year of Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) lost money, and the account has gone quiet. You want the chapter closed.
- It works, but not well enough. Sales are there, fees eat most of them, and your time is worth more elsewhere. You want a fair number and an easy process.
- It landed in your lap. A partner left, a business was inherited, a marriage ended. You want cash and as little explaining as possible.
If one of those is you, the question is no longer whether to leave. It is how to leave without throwing the account away. Good standing is the line that matters most: we buy accounts with no current suspension, deactivation or unresolved appeal.
Thinking of selling? Two-minute form, a 45-minute call, your offer within 24 hours.
Should I sell my Amazon account now or wait?
If you already know you are leaving, selling now is usually the better call. Waiting adds no value we can promise, while the risks of waiting are real: a suspension that puts the sale on hold, monthly fees that keep running, and the chance you close the account and lose it for good.
| Sell now | Wait | |
|---|---|---|
| Good standing | We check it on the call, while it holds | A suspension in the meantime puts any sale on hold |
| Costs | Fees from before the handover stay with you; later charges on your card are covered by us | A Professional plan with buyable listings keeps charging unless you downgrade; FBA stock keeps building storage charges |
| Responsibility | Your details come off once the account reaches its new owner | Your name, tax ID and bank stay on it, and anything that goes wrong is yours |
| Closing by mistake | Not possible once it is sold | A closed account cannot be reopened or sold |
| Your offer | On the call or within 24 hours, and you are not obliged to accept it | You can ask for one now and still decide later |
The one good reason to wait is that you are not sure you want out. If you plan to keep running the business, keep running it. If you are leaving and only hoping for a better quarter first, you are paying fees and carrying the risk while you hope.
Is there a best time of year to sell an Amazon account?
No month of the year is built into our offers. We price the account in front of us: its age, sales history, health, the categories and brands it can sell, and Brand Registry. The other input is what our buyers are asking for at the time, and nobody can promise where that will be next season.
Brand Registry is Amazon's program for trademark owners to register and protect their brand on Amazon. Accounts that carry it, or a registered trademark, are worth more to us.
An account that has gone quiet is not a no: its age and history carry value. An account that never took a single order is still worth a look; it is simply worth less. What any one account fetches is covered in how much is my Amazon seller account worth.
What does waiting cost you?
Waiting on a Professional plan costs you a monthly fee, keeps a risk in your name, and lets the account go quiet. The plan keeps charging while it has buyable listings, unless you downgrade to the Individual plan. Its standing can change while it sits, and a suspension puts any sale on hold.
On the subscription, Amazon's own wording: "If you keep any accounts open with a Professional selling plan and have buyable listings, you will still be subject to a monthly subscription fee." The same page gives the way out of the fee: "You can choose to downgrade your account from a Professional selling plan to an Individual selling plan if you don't want to be charged a monthly subscription fee." Both lines are on Amazon's close your seller account page.
What we do record on every account is the date of the last sale, even if it was years ago. That date goes into the offer: age and past sales set the account's market value, and a quiet account stops adding to its sales history.
The quiet cost is the inbox. Every email from Amazon is yours to read and answer.
What happens step by step when you just stop is in what happens if you just stop selling on Amazon.
Why sell to a direct buyer?
If you have decided to leave, a direct buyer is usually the cleanest exit. You deal with one buyer, the offer comes on the call or within 24 hours, and you are paid on the transfer call, usually one to three weeks from start. We are that direct buyer.

When is it too late to sell?
It is too late once the account is closed, because Amazon cannot reopen it. A suspension puts a sale on hold rather than ending it, unless it is for fraud, counterfeit or a related account. We buy accounts in good standing, so a fixable suspended account comes back to us once it is reinstated.
Amazon is plain about closure: "If you choose to close your account, Amazon can't reactivate or reinstate it." A closed account cannot be sold, by us or anyone else.
Amazon's rule: "Accounts cannot be closed within 90 days of your last sale." The 90 days run from your last sale, not from today, so an account that last sold more than 90 days ago is already past that wait. If you are weighing a closure, ask for an offer before you press the button; it costs you nothing.
We do not offer reinstatement as a service. If your account is suspended now, read can you sell a suspended Amazon seller account before you decide anything.
How fast can I be out once I decide?
Usually one to three weeks. You send a two-minute form, we look at the account with you on a 45-minute call, and the offer comes on the call or within 24 hours. The transfer call is booked within 10 business days of escrow being funded, and you are paid on that call.

The APA, or Asset Purchase Agreement, is the written contract that records the sale. Escrow.com is a licensed escrow agent (California DFPI licence 9631867) that holds the money until you hand over access. We fund it before anything moves, and you can see the money there before you hand over access.
From the transfer call, the money reaches your bank in about 1 business day by US wire, 3 to 5 business days by international wire, or about 3 business days by the free electronic transfer. We cover the Escrow fee either way.
Amazon may check the new owner after the handover, on about half of transfers, and that check can take 30 to 60 days. That wait belongs to the new owner, not to you. You are already paid. Even after the sale, you stay reachable and forward us any emails or codes that still reach you.

What should I do before I sell?
Keep the account in good standing, do not close it, and download your reports and tax forms before the handover. Then send the form and book the call. Once you accept an offer, bring your FBA stock down to under about 100 units before the transfer, since we buy the account and not the stock.
A short checklist for the weeks before:
- Read Amazon's emails. A warning answered early is far easier than a suspension answered late.
- Plan the stock removal early. Fees already on the account before the transfer stay with you, so settle them on your side.
- Leave the account open. Do not close the account or change anything major while a sale is in motion.
- Know your basics. Roughly how old the account is, a rough total of its sales, and which categories and brands it can sell. No login is needed to value it.
You are never obliged to accept an offer. Start with can I sell my Amazon seller account, or send us the form and we will go through the account with you on the call.
FAQ
Can I get an offer now and sell later?
Yes. Asking for an offer does not commit you to a sale. The offer is based on the account as it stands and on what our buyers are asking for at the time, so if you wait, ask for a fresh one when you are ready.
Do I pay tax when I sell my Amazon account?
That depends on your own situation, so talk to your accountant. If you need a 1099 after the handover, we can usually request it for you, but it is easier to download it beforehand.
Can I open a new Amazon seller account after selling mine?
Yes. Selling to us does not stop you having another Amazon seller account in the future. You do lose the Amazon buyer account tied to the one you sell, and we send instructions for opening a new one safely.
I want to buy an account, not sell one. Where do I go?
Our sister brand Seller Accounts sells aged accounts to buyers, at selleraccounts.com. Cash For Stores only buys.
